Interventions

Considering machines as living beings relies on changing your perception of yourself by interacting with objects, not just as tools but as something we should take care of. During the process, some questions appeared along the intervention questioning myself about the importance of those machines and how our senses tricky us considering they are only allowed to make sounds and reactions when being used. As a consequence, this questions ourselves of how we project our lives into the places we live and how quiet we want technology to be if it's not for our personal use of it.
Besides being a different approach and not necessarily related to creating new living beings, this project reminds the importance of considering the past and its creations to look for new possibilities into the future. Within futures thinking research, looking through the past can show us how and why our relations to the external changed and which cultures still envision a practice of care and connection. However, even with this importance, it's required to understand that nothing lasts forever and that some cultures are based on individual or community values that don't necessarily need to continue considering the different contexts and passages of time. At last, the most difficult part is to curate and understand why we want to continue those rituals, processes, and materials to stay in practice and which ones we want to maintain inside of papers or computational data.
Even if scary, the idea of creating your own living being, considering the advances in biotechnology, it's very plausible in the future not so far away from this moment and point in time. Like Tamagotchi's and even Pokemons, this project relies on the understanding of how animal behavior is perceived by humans and how it relates to their anatomy and structure by clustering specific parts attached to their living conditions. Almost selfish, this experiment triggered us to bioethics and the implications of how these technologies are gonna be applied to reality and with which organizations they are supposed to belong and even being regulated. As a consequence, the intervention is still connected to the idea of care, and how new living creatures conceived by us should be cared for and deserve our attention as individuals and not necessarily tools as long as we evolve into a more biological reality.
