MDEFest Intervention Proposal

From the present to the future

Nowadays, throughout the biodesign field, biomimicry has played an important role in mimitize and creating design solutions with better performance mechanically and systematically across different fields and niches of the market. However, with new tools as generative design to increase the use of materials and more sophisticated material manipulators, the steps of creation mainly come from human sketches around the design industry, where professionals still design for an infinite amount of time without thinking about their environment and its relations.

With the understanding of biology as the greatest technology we know as humans, our approach to get even further to incorporate not only its physical characteristics but also processes and intelligence, we need to understand the finitude of matter and how our creations relate to the specific environment we are designing for. The Lucifer machine acts as a womb, an egg, that aims to give birth, to genesis, new kinds of living beings, structural forms in real time by considering the environment where it's been giving life, its nutritional factors, enviromental confiditions, as a modular belly prepare to have different species of childen.

Despite the bioprinters today, Lucifer acts with Faraday wave formations inside the womb, which means that besides the living cells' reaction inside the womb, the machine will manipulate liquid matter state without even using "mechanical" tactile forces to give form to life, which can mean tissue engineering processes with less contamination risk and better maintaince care. This type of bioacoustic printer acts as a bridge to facilitate biotechnological innovation by using the still mysterious science of cymatics and how vibration controls matter around us as a biomechanical physical force.

This technology for the future can not only influence the development of new tissues, but also new biohybrid and biological interfaces, and give rise to new kinds of organisms or organs never seen before by exploring matter instantaneously by including the enviroment and its paramters to the new "skecth" process for designers around the world. As a consequence, Lucifer takes a step forward to imagine the future of creation and production of new objects that surround our lives, as the beginning of a process that will give power to create, from simple to more complex living structures, from atomic structures to even aquatic invertebrate structures.
